Research in the River Music program focuses on how the processes of musical cultural production occur within different communities in southwestern Colombia, the confluence of traditions of a rural past with more recent urbanization own dynamics and contemporary economics. Some areas of work are:
- The musical practice and social transformation space
- Music and strengthening cultural identity
- Economics of culture, cultural industries and musical activity
- Traditional musical repertoires analysis
- Music, Orality, dance and other cultural events
- Transmission of traditional musical knowledge
- The research activity within the program assumes a qualitative approach and is based on techniques of collecting information specific to anthropology, musicology and communication studies.
Research, extension and outreach: A comprehensive process
In the model of RMP research program jointly advancing the dissemination and outreach. This is achieved through activities that generate test inputs and, in turn, actively involve the participant community. Some of these activities are:
- Recording on location repertoires community
- Development of audiovisual and photographic material
- Reconstruction of life stories about the musical activity
- Disclosure of this research work is done through publications such as the Colombian Journal of Anthropology and Star Magazine and Thought, both indexed in the catalog Colciencias. Other forms of disclosure (audios, videos, texts) are the MartinaPombo River-Music concerts, photo exhibitions, audio discs and conferences in different scenarios.
