Place of the Project: South Pacific 14 Colombian municipalities
Community participant: Cantoras, musicians, cultural managers, instrument builders and local researchers in 14 municipalities in the southern Colombian Pacific
Objectives:
- Support communities of musicians, singers and cultural managers in the process of strengthening the Marimba music and traditional chants
- Generate documents that support the process of patrimonial Marimba music and traditional chants before the nation and the UNESCO
- Solicitation Conform and the Music Research Network Pacific
- Support the management of the Special Plan for the Protection of the Marimba music and traditional chants
Date: Accompanying the Universidad Javeriana Cali processes of strengthening Marimba music and traditional chants from Colombia’s South Pacific started in 2007 and has remained active until 2011.
Results:
- Paper for nomination to UNESCO. The inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2010 was achieved
- Characterization and documentation (photography, video, audio) of songs, dances and cultural events related
- Documentation practice Marimba music and traditional chants
- Participants: Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, Ministry of Culture, Polyphony Foundation team MartinaPombo
Important Fact: From the River Music program the initial documents that supported the nomination to UNESCO of the Marimba music and traditional chants South Pacific and Intangible Heritage of Humanity were developed
